No driver wants to walk out to their RAM 1500 or Chrysler 300 and see something leaking below it. Unfortunately, it does happen. Today our Dodge, Jeep®, Chrysler, and RAM service technicians have a guide for what to do if you see fluid beneath your vehicle.
Fluid Below Your Vehicle
Fluid beneath your Dodge car or Jeep SUV could be a variety of things, but these are a few good steps to take for any kind of fluid leak.
- Check to make sure the fluid came from your vehicle. If what you’re seeing is just a puddle of fluid left from the vehicle that was parked in the spot before you, there’s no need to worry. Try to shine a flashlight under your car, truck, or SUV and see if you can identify the source. If the fluid is coming from your vehicle, follow the next steps!
- Check the color of the fluid. If you’re not sure from just looking, you can try dipping a paper towel in. Clear fluid is most likely water, and it might just come from condensation. Dark brown or black is likely motor oil, while red or green could be antifreeze. Regardless of the fluid, you’ll want to follow the next step, but the problem can be solved more quickly if you’re able to identify the issue.
- Visit the Heritage Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Service Center. A fluid leak doesn’t necessarily indicate something terrible, but it’s definitely not something you want to ignore. Bring your vehicle in for service as soon as you can, let our service technicians know if you have a guess about the source of the leak, and we’ll take it from there!
